Woman accused of abandoning baby in trash bin released on bond

The woman accused of abandoning her newborn baby in a trash bin Thursday was released from jail Saturday afternoon on a $10,000 bond, authorities said.
Shelby Harper Taylor, 23, has been charged with one count of attempted murder, said Lt. Raul Denis with the Horry County Police Department. Taylor turned herself in Friday and was taken to the hospital for treatment. After her release, she went to the J. Reuben Long Detention Center. She was released shortly after 5:45 p.m., a jail official said.
Taylor surrendered to police Thursday night after she recognized pictures of herself being circulated by Horry County police, Denis said.
Officers were called about 2:30 p.m. to the 500 block of Fairway Village Drive Thursday when the newborn was discovered by two brothers taking trash to the bin where the baby was found.
Austin Detray, 19, and 13-year-old brother Raymond Price recovered the baby from a trash bag after hearing its cries, police said.
Their mother, Jessica Price, called 911, and the baby was taken to Waccamaw Medical Center for treatment, authorities said.
The baby girl appeared to be “freshly born” and was still covered in blood and afterbirth, according to a police report.
The baby was reported to be in stable condition when officers checked on her Thursday afternoon. Staff at the hospital said the baby appeared to be only hours old, police said.
The Department of Social Services is currently working with law enforcement and the family to find an appropriate home for the baby, the social services department said in a statement on Friday.
