Pedestrian killed in Friday traffic collision identified by Horry County coroner

A 69-year-old woman was struck and killed in a traffic collision Friday night in Myrtle Beach, according to a release from Darris Fowler, Horry County deputy coroner.

Betty Wiggins of Myrtle Beach was identified Friday night as the pedestrian who was struck and killed by a vehicle during a traffic collision, the release states.

Officers responded to a traffic collision involving a pedestrian just after 7 p.m. at the intersection of 8th Ave. South and Kings Highway, according to a release from Joey Crosby with the Myrtle Beach Police Department.

The pedestrian was struck while crossing the highway near 805 U.S. 17 Business South and died at the scene from multiple trauma, according to the coroner.

The incident is still under investigation, according to Myrtle Beach police.
