She got in a wreck on the way to get pizza, but they still managed to deliver

After a Murrells Inlet woman was running some errands Thursday evening — one being to pick up a pizza from Marco’s Pizza — she was involved in a three-vehicle crash and taken to the hospital, but she still managed to get her pizza.

Joan Sullivan said a vehicle crashed into hers, hitting her on the left-front driver’s side. The wreck happened near Indigo Club Drive in Murrells Inlet.

Sullivan was taken to Tidelands Waccamaw Community Hospital with minor injuries, she told The Sun News.

When Sam Yancey, general manager of Marco’s Pizza in Garden City, called the phone number on Sullivan’s order, her husband answered and told him she was in a car wreck.

“I went to the accident scene but she was already taken to the hospital,” Yancey said.

After officers told him what hospital Sullivan was at, he decided to head there and personally deliver Sullivan’s pizza himself.

“I just wanted to make sure she had her pizza,” Yancey explained. “She was a very nice lady, I’m glad she wasn’t hurt too bad.”

Sullivan said she was very surprised to see him walk in her room with pizza — free of charge.

“Oh dear God, I’m like ‘how did they know?’” she asked. “God bless them, it was such a gracious thing to do. What a great community we live in.”
