North Myrtle Beach officials on Tuesday gave the initial nod to annex a proposed new steakhouse into the city limits.

Rioz Brazilian Steakhouse wants to open a new location on U.S. 17 Business North across the street from the Coastal North Town Center by May, said Sean Hoelscher, the landscape architect who is working with engineers to develop the new restaurant.

The property is in a county doughnut hole, and if annexed into North Myrtle Beach, it would be hooked up to city water and sewer operations, and get city fire and police services.

Hoelscher said the developer wants an “aggressive timeline” to get the restaurant open by the spring, and asked for a special Planning Commission meeting Tuesday in order to meet that deadline.

The commission’s regular meeting was initially set for Nov. 7, but postponed due to city elections. That postponement would have put the annexation timeline into 2018, Hoelscher said.

The Planning Commission approved the annexation request during the Tuesday afternoon meeting.

If the city council agrees and the property is annexed, officials would consider zoning the property as highway commercial.

“It’s ready to go,” Aaron Rucker, the city’s principal planner told the commission.

The steakhouse would be constructed at the former Party Maker and Cottage Antiques location.

Rioz Brazilian Steakhouse offers steaks cooked over a bed of wood charcoal as well as lamb and seafood plus fresh sushi.

Some of the trademark offerings of the authentic Brazilian experience include fried bananas and polenta, and the restaurant also features a salad bar.
