Who makes the most money in the Horry County Schools?

The names and salaries of of government employees making more than $50,000 are public record under South Carolina’s Freedom of Information Act.

Horry County Schools has more than 43,000 students, and employs more than 5,000 people, most of them teachers.

The highest-paid employee is Superintendent Rick Maxey, who makes more than $218,000. Second is Legal Counsel Kenny Generette, who makes $163,000, thanks to a recent $35,000 pay raise.

The third-highest paid employee is Chief Academic Officer Edna Myrick, who makes more than $126,000.

Chief Financial Officer John Gardner, Chief Information and Accountability Officer Edward Boyd, Chief Support Services Officer Daryl Brown and Chief Human Resources Officer Mary Anderson all make $129,362.

Gardner is also the mayor of Aynor, and is up for reelection in November there. He’s running unopposed.
