Ed Carey kicks off day three of The Sun New’s Facebook Live town hall
The third day of The Sun New’s Facebook Live Q&A sessions brought Ed Carey to the table. With five previously provided questions, Carey tackled key topics like crime and the Superblock properties.
“I’m not the law enforcement expert in this city,” he said. Carey continued by saying that the plan to increase the police department with 10 new officers each year for seven years is a good start. He wants to also utilize retired officers in the area as well as reach out to experts to help solve crime issues in Myrtle Beach.
For the Superblock properties, Carey does not want to put a children’s museum in library in the downtown area. Rather, he would like to put businesses in the ground floors of the buildings, and expand them upward for residential spaces.
When asked why he would be the best candidate for the position, Carey said: “I’m going to look at realities of our issues and solutions, not just the optics and the perception of it. I think I’m that only candidate that’s a fiscal conservative who believes that government is here primarily for public safety and equal property rights for all citizens and visitors and guests. I’ve got 40 years of experience in the construction development field. I’m going to think out of the box and we need to think out of the box and get our city economic engine running again.”
Mark McBride is the last candidate to participate in the Q&A, beginning at noon on Oct. 27.
