Brenda Bethune first candidate to participate in The Sun New’s Facebook Live town hall

Brenda Bethune kicked off The Sun New’s Facebook Live Q&A Tuesday afternoon, confronting key issues in the mayoral race such as crime, the Superblock properties and the city’s relationship with the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce.

Throughout the 30-minute session, Bethune kept to her plan of looking toward other city’s for ideas on improving tourism as well as making changes to the downtown area in order to attract new businesses. These changes include preserving as many Superblock properties as possible.

Bethune also hopes to focus on the drug epidemic, gangs and the homeless population to clean up crime in Myrtle Beach. She also wants to put more officers on the street in order to prevent crime.

When asked why she would be good for the position Bethune said, “I am a proven leader. I have been very active in our community my entire adult life, and I do that because I really think it makes a difference in how I treat people, how I see our community. And really wanting to give back, I think, continues in a way that, whether it’s in a business or as an individual, it shows people that we really do get much more back when we give to our community.”

The Facebook Live Q&A sessions with mayoral candidates continues throughout the week. C.D. Rozsa is scheduled for Oct. 25, Ed Carey is scheduled for Oct. 26 and Mark McBride will appear on Oct. 27. All livestreams will begin at noon.
