These beach accesses and parking lots will temporarily close in Garden City
Repairs to Garden City beach from recent storms will enter its last phase beginning next week with the replacement of sand fences to protect the dunes.
The work will require the temporary closure of Beach Access Number One as well as the parking lot, and the Yucca Avenue parking area, according to a statement from Georgetown County.
Closures will begin Sunday night. No reopening date has been set.
The beach access and parking lots will close because the project contractor needs to stage materials and equipment in public access areas while the work is ongoing.
The work is part of a $26 million project by the Army Corps of Engineers to repair damages from Hurricane Matthew and other storms that have impacted Grand Strand beaches including the piers in recent years.
Most of the beach renourishment work has already relocated to North Myrtle Beach for the final phase of this year’s beach renourishment project.
