Bridge replacement in Myrtle Beach to close road through spring 2018
Withers Swash Bridge on Broadway Street in Myrtle Beach will be closed beginning Nov. 1 through spring of next year due to construction, according to the South Carolina Department of Transportation.
The bridge is “structurally deficient, functionally obsolete and load restricted” and must be replaced, the transportation department said in a statement.
Motorists heading southwest on Broadway Street will be detoured from 3rd Avenue North to U.S. 501 to 3rd Avenue South.
Traffic heading northeast on Broadway Street will use 3rd Avenue South to U.S. 501 to 3rd Avenue North.
Signs will go up directing motorists through the detour.
The new bridge is expected to open in the spring of 2018, barring delays due to weather or unforeseen circumstances. Carolina Bridge Company of Orangeburg is the prime contractor.
