Last sea turtle nest in North Myrtle Beach hatches
The last sea turtle nest in North Myrtle Beach hatched on Tuesday, and one of the hatchlings was caught on camera coming out of its shell.
According to Linda Mataya, leader of the North Myrtle Beach Sea Turtle Patrol, nine live Loggerhead hatchlings were released shortly after a 6 p.m inventory.
There were a total of 117 hatched eggs in the nest located at 11th Avenue North.
Loggerheads are the most common type of sea turtle to nest along the Grand Strand and throughout South Carolina, Myrtle Beach State Park Ranger Ann Wilson previously told The Sun News.
A total of 5,221 sea turtle nests have been reported in South Carolina this year, according to information from the S.C. Department of Natural Resources Marine Turtle Conservation Program.
