Fire burns bait shop in Murrells Inlet, police investigating
A fire broke out, but was quickly extinguished at a Murrells Inlet bait shop Friday morning, fire authorities said.
Crews were called about 10 a.m. to Perry’s Bait and Tackle shop at 3965 US 17 Business and saw flames fanning and smoke billowing from the building when they arrived, Assistant Chief J.R. Haney, with Murrells Inlet-Garden City Fire Department said.
Haney said the fire was out within minutes, and stated reports said no one was in the building at the time. No injuries were reported in connection with the blaze.
Haney said there was some damage done to part of the outside of the building, and a little done to the inside, but that it appeared repairable.
Haney said the fire’s cause remains under investigation. He said MIGCF is assisting in the investigation, but stated Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office and South Carolina Law Enforcement Division are leading the investigation. Haney said SLED is sometimes called to investigate when a fire’s origins are difficult to pinpoint.
