Goats forced to evacuate Murrells Inlet island

For charter captains Adam Goodwin and Jason Burton it was anything but a typical day.

With the impending dangers of Hurricane Irma threatening the Florida coast, owner of Drunken Jack’s Al Hitchcock decided it was time to remove the goats from “Goat Island,” located in Murrells Inlet.

With help from three boats from Murrells Inlet Fishing Charters, Goodwin and Burton loaded the goats up and took them to land where they will be placed safely away from any effects from the hurricane.

Placed on the island 24 years ago, the goats help to keep underbrush down during the summer months. During wintertime the goats are placed at Osprey Marina along the Intracoastal Waterway.
