President Donald Trump has signed an emergency declaration for the state of South Carolina, making federal emergency aid available to the state, according to a release from FEMA.
The aid will help to supplement state, tribal and local response efforts in the event of emergency conditions.
“FEMA is authorized to identify, mobilize and provide at it discretion, equipment and resources necessary to alleviate the impacts of the emergency,” the release states. “Emergency protective measures, including direct federal assistance, will be provided at 75 percent federal funding.”
The declaration comes after South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster declaring a state of emergency Wednesday afternoon as Irma moves closer to the U.S.
