First road to Myrtle Beach built, connecting the town with Conway; ran through Socastee and made of sand

Myrtle Beach is selected from a contest to give New Town its official name; named for the native wax myrtle shrub

First hotel, Seaside Inn, is built by Burroughs and Collins Co.
