Officials respond to capsized boat, distressed swimmer

The Myrtle Beach Fire Department, with the help of Horry County police, responded to a swimmer in distress Tuesday afternoon at 71st Avenue North in Myrtle Beach, according to Myrtle Beach Fire Department Public Education Officer Lt. Jonathan Evans.

Upon arrival, units found a Catamaran on it’s side with its operator in the water, officials said.

Rescue swimmers were able to swim to the distressed swimmer and help them to shore while police officers deployed jet skis to help bring the boat in.

The swimmer was brought safely to shore and the boat was uprighted, Evans said.
