Mercer is very special to the staff here at SFAC. This sweet chunky hound dog has been with us off and on since May of 2016. Mercer may technically be a hound dog but he knows NOTHING of the hunting life! This boy is such a love and likes the finer things in life like swimming pools, comfy beds, lots of toys and best friends to spend his days with. Now I know your asking yourself why has he been there off and on. Mercer has been adopted two different times and returned for "nipping" This is alarming for most people, however we have a Dog Trainer who volunteers for us and she has spent a lot of time with Mercer to figure out what is going on. We have come to the conclusion that Mercer has Arousal Biting. This is more common than not, and can be fixed with simple training and educating. This happens when the dog is over stimulated after having a long period of inactivity. Dog's like Mercer need things to do and have their brains challenged in order to relieved their boredom. Mercer gets along great with other dogs, he even likes cats! If you are interested in meeting mercer please don't hesitate to contact our adoptions department. This sweet boy just needs someone understanding and willing to work with him. We have tons of information to pass on to his potential adopters and will help in any way we can!
