The brother of a North Myrtle Beach motorcyclist who was killed in a crash last week has set up a Go Fund Me page to raise money for the wife and two children his brother left behind.

Raye Farrar, 49, was likely headed to the grocery store in North Myrtle Beach when at about 6:30 p.m. Oct. 21 he was involved in a deadly crash at 13th Avenue North and U.S. 17.

“The family is kind of crumbling right now,” said Christopher Farrar, brother of crash victim, Raye Farrar.

Christopher Farrar, who said he is currently stationed in San Diego, Ca. with the U.S. Navy, has been trying to aid his brother’s wife and two children from afar.

Following the crash, officers found Raye Farrar unresponsive on the ground, and he was pronounced dead at the scene when medics arrived, according to Pat Dowling, North Myrtle Beach city spokesman.

Witnesses said that the driver of a white Mazda Coupe tried to make a u-turn in front of the motorcycle, and that resulted in a crash, Dowling said.

The driver of the Mazda, Donelle Marie Spivey, 30, of Charlotte, N.C., told police she was setting up her GPS when it indicted she should make a u-turn. She said the motorcycle tried to pass her and ran off the road, according to authorities.

Police discovered she had neither a valid driver’s license nor auto insurance, Dowling said. She was charged with driving under suspension, second offense, uninsured vehicle, expired registration, and unlawful lane change.

The family depended on Raye Farrar as the sole breadwinner and provider, and now face financial issues as well as the emotional toll of the loss, said Christopher Farrar.

Raye’s wife is disabled with a hundred percent hearing loss in both ears and cares for the couple’s children, ages 10 and 12, Christopher Farrar said.

“At the time, he did not have a life insurance policy. He was a paycheck to paycheck man who did his best to provide for his family - and now he has been taken from us,” the Go Fund Me page states.

Raye Farrar worked in the hotel industry and was an avid motorcyclist and enthusiast who rode often and had a passion for it, according to Christopher Farrar.

Christopher Farrar has set up a Go Fund Me account, with the keyword search “Raye Farrar” to raise money for the family to provide immediate relief while he said his brother’s wife explores Social Security and searches for employment, he said.
