75th Ave. North temporarily closed due to sewer spill

The 75th Ave. North public access is temporarily closed due to a malfunctioning sanitary sewer pump station, according to a release from the City of Myrtle Beach.

The malfunctioning station near 77th Ave. North allowed sewage to escape the system in the area of the 75th Ave. North street end.

The amount of sewage collected is unknown, but it did not come in contact with ocean water.

The spill was found Saturday afternoon and city staff disinfected the area, which is now blocked off with posted signs.

Coastal Carolina University staff will take water quality samples in the swim zone as a precaution Sunday. When the tests come back within safe limits, the beach access will be reopened.
