Part of U.S. 501 closed due to rising river water
WMBF reported that one lane of U.S. 501 has been closed in the area of Galivants Ferry due to rising waters from the Little Pee Dee River, according to Lorena Pate, assistant district maintenance engineer with the South Carolina Department of Transportation.
Pate stated that the rising water is too close to the roadway, which is why the lane was shut down.
The water is now over 17 feet, which is major flood stage for the river.
