A community forum on human trafficking is planned for Wednesday in North Myrtle Beach.
The GFWC North Myrtle Beach Woman’s Club is presenting a “Community Forum on Human Trafficking” from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Conference Center at Barefoot Resort in North Myrtle Beach.
The keynote speaker will be South Carolina State Attorney General, Alan Wilson. In addition, the forum schedule includes field experts, front line workers, and a panel discussion with audience participation. The public is welcomed.
City’s first seafood fest planned
A new seafood festival will replace the longstanding Oktoberfest celebration in downtown Myrtle Beach.
Oktoberfest had grown through the years to be a popular event, luring thousands downtown for the street festival with live bands, beer and other entertainment.
Palmetto Event Productions, in conjunction with the Downtown Redevelopment Corp., is organizing the inaugural Myrtle Beach Seafood Festival.
The event, along Ocean Boulevard between Eighth and Ninth avenues North, will include a beer and wine garden, children’s activities, a corn hole tournament and live entertainment including Jim Quick & Coastline and The Tams. It is free to attend and will run from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Loris Bog-Off set for Saturday
The Loris Chamber of Commerce sponsors the Loris Bog-Off Festival each year on the third Saturday in October in downtown Loris.
The event is a day packed with entertainment, vendors, food, and fun for all ages. The festival began in 1980 as a chicken bog cooking contest and has evolved into the huge event it is today. Chicken bog generally consists of chicken, rice, sausage and spices of your choice; though over the years there have been many variations of this basic recipe.

Heroin Awareness meeting set for Thursday
A community awareness meeting dealing with heroin called “Injecting Hope” is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Living Water Baptist Church in Longs.
A guest panel, including Sen. Greg Hembree and 15th Judicial Solicitor Jimmy Richardson, will discuss the issue.
