Myrtle Beach police charged a man for assaulting a tow-truck driver towing vehicles illegally parked.

Police responded to the scene about 3:15 a.m. Sunday to a club at 516 8th Ave. N. in Myrtle Beach where the victim and a witness told officers that a woman came into the lot looking for her car, which had been towed.

After being told how to retain her car, the woman began to yell, curse and rant at the driver and witness and tell them what they were doing was illegal, according to the report. The victim was hooking up another car when other people in the parking lot began to get “worked up” at what was happening.

The tow truck driver said a man approached and threw a punch at him, and as he was pushing him off, three other men attacked him from the back, striking him on the head and piling on him as he went to the ground. The driver said all he remember was seeing stars.

Three of the suspects fled the scene, but police were able to arrest Daniel Elan Owens, 25, who was identified as the one who hit the driver from the back. Owens was charged with simple assault.
