Kids 5 and older can soon get vaccinated at Horry County Schools sites. Here’s how

COVID-19 vaccines will be available for anyone ages 5 and older at multiple Horry County Schools sites starting next week.

The school district is working with Conway Medical Center to offer shots at four vaccination events starting Tuesday. The events are open to HCS students and staff, as well as the general public.

The Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine was approved for kids ages 5-11 earlier this month, the latest hurdle toward a higher vaccination rate that experts say will increase the community’s protection against the deadly virus. In Horry County, about 52% of the total population has been fully vaccinated, according to data kept by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Since the beginning of the school year, nearly 4,000 students and staff members within the district have tested positive for COVID-19, according to district data. Vaccines aren’t required for students or staff, and the school district doesn’t track how many students or staff members have been vaccinated against the coronavirus, spokeswoman Lisa Bourcier said.

Here are the details for HCS vaccination events:

  • Burgess Elementary School (9645 Scipio Lane in Myrtle Beach): 4-7 p.m. on November 16 and December 7

  • Daisy Elementary School (2801 Red Bluff Road in Loris): 4-7 p.m on November 16 and December 7

  • Carolina Forest Elementary School (285 Carolina Forest Boulevard in Myrtle Beach): 4-7 p.m. on November 17 and December 8

  • Conway Elementary School (1101 Snowhill Drive in Conway): 4-7 p.m. on November 17 and December 8

No appointments are necessary for the HCS events.
