Here’s when kids 5 and older can get the COVID-19 vaccine at Tidelands Health

Kids ages 5 and older in the Myrtle Beach area are now eligible to get vaccinated against COVID-19 following the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention giving the green light to the shot Tuesday night.

Tidelands Health is set to begin offering shots to kids in the latest approved age group at a vaccination event Thursday, according to a news release from the hospital system.

The Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine has been approved for use in children, injecting a smaller dose into the body meant for kids to handle.

Pediatricians will be available to answer questions at the event, which is geared toward children and family with a “comforting environment.” Chief operating officer Gayle Resetar said the event is an opportunity to get the whole family vaccinated against the coronavirus and for those in eligible groups to get booster shots.

“This family vaccine clinic was designed with young kids’ unique needs in mind, and we’re holding the event after business hours to accommodate hectic schedules,” Resetar said in the release.

Horry County has consistently been among the top counties in the state for its vaccination rate, but just over 50% of the county’s total population has been fully vaccinated, according to data kept by the CDC. With the new age group eligible for the vaccine, that number could increase.

Beginning next week, Tidelands will start offering the kid-sized vaccine dose at its regular vaccination sites:

  • Tidelands Georgetown Memorial Hospital, Harris Medical Pavilion entrance, 606 Black River Road, Georgetown, every Monday, Tuesday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., as well as new hours Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Tidelands Health Medical Park at The Market Common, 2200 Crow Lane, Myrtle Beach, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., as well as new hours Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • The Compass Professional Center, 10607 Highway 707, Myrtle Beach, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Thursday’s event will take place at 4:30 to 7 p.m. at Tidelands Health Family Medicine at Holmestown Road, 4320 Holmestown Road in Myrtle Beach.
