Coronavirus live updates Sept. 22: Horry County cases continue to grow
Cases of the coronavirus grew by 22 in Horry County Tuesday, and one more virus-related death was reported, health officials announced.
To date, the county has seen 9,897 positive COVID-19 tests and 184 people in the are have died of the virus, according to the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control.
DHEC reported 15 cases in its daily news release. The department’s online map indicates a jump of 22 since Monday’s numbers, and officials have said the map is the most accurate depiction.
Tuesday’s numbers include some cases that were reported to DHEC late, a news release from the department said. Of the roughly 15,000 tests reported to DHEC from Augusta University Healthcare in Georgia, approximately 2,000 were positive and 13,000 were negative. The release emphasized that the positive results do not mean the cases are currently active because in the delay of reporting.

In Georgetown County, 1,753 cases and 38 deaths have been reported since the beginning of the pandemic, DHEC reports.
Tuesday’s numbers bring South Carolina’s total case count to 134,884 and 3,067 deaths have been reported, according to DHEC.
Wash your hands & wear a mask

DHEC asks people to wear a mask when visiting public places and practice social distancing to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. It is now mandatory to wear face masks in certain public areas in unincorporated Horry County, the City of Myrtle Beach, the City of North Myrtle Beach and Georgetown County.
Health officials say washing your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds can help prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
