Coronavirus live updates Sept. 21: Here is the latest case data for the Myrtle Beach area
Horry County added another 16 coronavirus cases to its total count, according to the latest figures from health officials.
The Myrtle Beach area now has 9,875 total COVID-19 cases since the pandemic started, according to the latest data released by the South Carolina Department of Health and Enviormental Control on Monday afternoon. That is up from the 9,859 cases reported on Sunday.
There have also been 183 coronavirus-related deaths reported in Horry County.
Here are the latest updates on the coronavirus in the Myrtle Beach area Sept. 21:
Horry County Schools received thousands of requests from families for students to transfer from virtual learning to in-person instruction. Families had the option on virtual or brick-and-mortar learning to start the year amid the pandemic, but recently opened a transfer window.
Georgetown County also saw its cases grow by two, going from 1,759 to 1,761. There has also been 40 deaths in Georgetown County, according to DHEC data.
South Carolina’s COVID-19 case total now sits at 134,884, with 3,040 deaths, according to DHEC data.

It is now mandatory to wear face masks in certain public areas in unincorporated Horry County, the City of Myrtle Beach, the City of North Myrtle Beach and Georgetown County.
Health officials say washing your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds can help prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
