Coronavirus live updates Sept. 4: Horry County adds more than 30 cases to COVID-19 totals
Horry County saw 34 new coronavirus cases in the latest pandemic update provided by state health officials.
The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control released the new case data on Friday afternoon. The Myrtle Beach area now has a total of 9,390 cases, up from 9,356 on Thursday.
The area has also seen 178 COVID-19 deaths.
Here are the latest updates on the coronavirus in the Myrtle Beach area Sept. 4:
Health officials have preformed 75,811 coronavirus tests in Horry County since the pandemic started in mid-March, according to DHEC data. There have been nearly 800 hospitalizations in Horry County.
The average age of people hospitalized in the Myrtle Beach area is 64 years old.
A DEHC news release on Friday indicates the Myrtle Beach area had 39 new cases, but the online map shows an additional 34. Health officials have said the online map provides the most accurate data.
In Georgetown County, the total number of coronavirus cases sits at 1,710. There has also been 36 deaths.
South Carolina has a total of 121,378 coronavirus cases since the pandemic started in March. There have also been 2,706 deaths across the state.

DHEC asks people to wear a mask when visiting public places and practice social distancing to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. It is now mandatory to wear face masks in certain public areas in unincorporated Horry County, the City of Myrtle Beach, the City of North Myrtle Beach and Georgetown County.
Health officials say washing your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds can help prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
