Coronavirus live updates Aug. 15: Myrtle Beach area sees nearly 50 new COVID-19 cases
Coronavirus numbers continued to grow in Horry County with an additional 48 cases Saturday.
South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control officials say the Myrtle Beach area has seen a total of 8,802 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic started in mid-March.
There have been 162 deaths in Horry County from coronavirus. One new death of an elderly person was announced Saturday.

Since mid-March, Georgetown County has reported 1,518 COVID-19 cases and 25 deaths, DHEC reports.
South Carolina as a whole has seen 104,874 virus cases and 2,156 people have died since the beginning of the pandemic, according to DHEC data.
There is currently a 90 percent recovery rate, according to DHEC.
Within weeks of reopening, two people died from overdoses at a well-known Myrtle Beach home that was declared a “nuisance” and closed because of ongoing drug use.

Health officials say washing your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds can help prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
