Coronavirus live updates July 11: Myrtle Beach area COVID-19 cases rise by more than 200
Coronavirus cases continued to skyrocket in the Myrtle Beach area Saturday, according to the latest figures from the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control.
Horry County had 208 new cases as of Saturday, bringing the county’s total to 5,583 since mid-March. Horry County’s death total rose by five with the total now at 72. Two of the new deaths were elderly individuals, two were middle-aged people and one was a young adult, according to DHEC.
In Georgetown County, there have been 768 confirmed cases and seven deaths.

DHEC has announced 1,103 coronavirus cases in Horry County so far this week.
South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster issued a “last call” order in a news conference Friday morning that prohibits restaurants and bars from selling alcoholic beverages after 11 p.m. The order was to begin Saturday.
Cases of the virus across the state have surpassed 54,000, DHEC reports. The state had 2,265 new cases and 18 new deaths as of Saturday, raising the totals to 54,538 and 940, respectively.
South Carolina saw its first child death from coronavirus, DHEC stated. The death was a 5-year-old from the Midlands. DHEC is not reporting the child’s name.
DHEC reports that there has been a 436.5% rise in cases among those ages 21-30 since June 1. That age group now represents the most cases in the state at 22 percent.

DHEC asks people to wear a mask when visiting public places and practice social distancing to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. It is now mandatory to wear face masks in certain public areas in unincorporated Horry County, the City of Myrtle Beach, the City of North Myrtle Beach and Georgetown County.
Health officials say washing your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds can help prevent the spread of COVID-19.
