Coronavirus live updates June 25: Cases continue to soar in Myrtle Beach, Horry County

Cases of the coronavirus grew by 125 Thursday in Horry County, according to state health officials.

The latest announcement brings the total number of cases in Horry County to 2,495 since mid-March. There have been 42 deaths in the county due to COVID-19, the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control reports.

Here are live updates on the coronavirus in the Myrtle Beach area June 25.

Cases of the coronavirus have routinely been in the triple digits during daily DHEC updates since mid June, data shows. There have been 566 announced so far this week in Horry County, DHEC data shows. One death due to the virus was reported this week in the county.

Cases in Georgetown County have surpassed 337, according to DHEC. There have been three coronavirus-related deaths in Georgetown County.

Across South Carolina, cases have surpassed 28,900 and 691 deaths have been reported, DHEC reports.

The state has an 81 percent recovery rate as of June 22, according to DHEC.

Health experts say washing your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds can also help prevent the spread of the virus. People should also refrain from touching their eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands, officials say.
