Virginia joins growing list of areas with COVID-19 cases after Myrtle Beach trips
More than two dozen people in Virginia are reporting a COVID-19 outbreak after visits to Myrtle Beach, officials confirmed.
There are 27 cases in Roanoke, Botetourt, Craig and Alleghany counties, said said Molly O’Dell Director of Infectious Disease Control with the Virginia Department of Health. She confirmed the cases to The Sun News on Tuesday. The cases are across all ages, O’Dell said.
The Virginia cases are the latest in a string of communities reporting coronavirus outbreaks after trips to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Several counties in West Virginia reported coronavirus cases after trips to Myrtle Beach. In Preston County, more than 30 cases are now tied to visits to the Grand Strand.
The increase in West Virginia cases has led the state to warn people about travel to Myrtle Beach. If they do go, health officials said, they should get tested when they return.
“I would think twice before I did that, West Virginia, right now because they got a real problem going on,” Gov. Jim Justice said at a Friday press conference.
An Ohio county also reported an outbreak after a visit to Myrtle Beach. About 90 high school students visited Horry County earlier this month, and more than a dozen have tested positive.
