More than 50 Horry County employees out of office due to possible COVID-19 exposure

A total of 58 Horry County government employees are currently working remotely or using medical leave due to possible coronavirus exposure, according to a county news release.

Those employees, who are all awaiting test results, include 14 in the Solicitor’s Office and seven each in the police department and detention center. Nineteen county government employees have tested positive since mid-March, the release states.

County offices remain operational, but residents are encouraged to conduct business by phone, email or other electronic means. Those who do visit an office in person will be required to wear a face mask while inside the building, and one will be provided if a resident doesn’t have one.

State health officials currently consider Horry County a hot spot for the virus, and 120 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed Wednesday, which was a new daily high and the second day in a row leading all counties in South Carolina.
