Latest: Horry County, Myrtle Beach area see another bump in coronavirus cases
Twelve more coronavirus cases have been confirmed in the Myrtle Beach area on Saturday, according to the latest information from the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control.
There are now 371 positive COVID-19 cases in Horry County, with 21 deaths reported.
Georgetown County has 56 confirmed cases and three deaths reported, as South Carolina’s total rose to 9,895 confirmed cases and 425 deaths from COVID-19. Statewide about 85 percent of people who tested positive from coronavirus have recovered.
With Memorial Day festivities in full swing, Myrtle Beach officials are expecting a 75 to 100 percent occupancy rate for the holiday weekend, which could be a strong indicator on the virus’ status here in the coming weeks after Horry County had its highest one-day number of cases reported Friday.
This week, there have been 73 COVID-19 cases announced in Horry County. There were 39 newly announced cases last week in the county.
Health officials are still encouraging people to practice social distancing when they are out. That includes wearing masks and to frequently wash your hands. To learn more about coronavirus cases, the virus itself and how to prevent it spreading, visit DHEC’s website.
