Coronavirus by the numbers: Total confirmed creep toward 300 in Horry County
Just one new case of the coronavirus was announced in Horry County on Monday.
That brings the total number of cases since mid-March to 299 in Horry County, according to the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control. The county has had 19 COVID-19 related deaths, with none reported Monday.
Last week, Horry County had 39 newly announced cases and one death, compared to the previous week’s 36 new cases and one death, DHEC records show.
South Carolina’s cases have reached 8,942, with 391 deaths, DHEC reports, with 126 new cases and six deaths reported Monday. That follows a Sunday in which 163 new cases and five additional deaths were announced in the state.
There were no new cases announced in Georgetown County on Monday, leaving that county with 52 cases including three deaths.
DHEC said its goal is to test 2 percent of the population, or 110,000 South Carolinians, per month and it is on track to meet the target by the end of the May.
In order to increase testing in underserved and rural communities across the state, DHEC has worked with community partners to set up more than 50 free mobile testing and popup clinics scheduled through June 5, though none of them are in Horry or Georgetown counties. New mobile clinics are regularly added and the list can be found at scdhec.gov/covid19mobileclinics.
In North Carolina, there are more than 19,000 cases and more than 660 confirmed deaths, and in Brunswick County there have been 57 confirmed cases and just two deaths reported as of Monday.
