Daily update: More coronavirus cases, another death announced in the Myrtle Beach area

Cases of the coronavirus climbed by five and one new death was announced in Horry County on Sunday, according to an update from health officials.

South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control released the latest number of cases in the county, bringing the total to 298 since mid-March.

Horry County has had 19 deaths due to the coronavirus, DHEC reports, with Sunday’s death being an elderly person. The last coronavirus death announced before Sunday in the county was May 4.

This week, there have been 39 new confirmed cases in Horry County. Last week, 36 new cases were announced in the county.

Cases across South Carolina have reached 8,816, with 385 deaths, according to DHEC.
