Coronavirus updates May 13: Horry County lifts state of emergency, others add extensions

Horry County Council voted Wednesday morning to end its state of emergency during the coronavirus pandemic, while other local governments have extended the emergency orders.

The county also removed the emergency ordinance that closed amusement attractions, though South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster will have the final say on when those attractions may reopen.

Here are the latest updates on the coronavirus in the Myrtle Beach area May 13.

Coronavirus cases in Horry County have climbed to 269, with 18 virus-related deaths since mid-March, according to the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control. Last week, the county had 36 newly announced cases, compared to the previous week with 27.

Cases in Georgetown County have reached 53 and the county has had three deaths, according to DHEC.

In South Carolina, cases have grown to at least 7,927 as of Wednesday. There have been 355 coronavirus deaths across the state. The state’s overall recovery rate a increase from 81 to 86 percent as of Monday, DHEC reports.
