Coronavirus count: The latest numbers for Horry County, including additional death

The number of coronavirus cases in Horry County and the Myrtle Beach area continued to rise Sunday, with three additional cases and one new death.

The county’s total rose to 226 cases, up from 223 on Saturday, when no new cases were confirmed. The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control released the latest data on Sunday afternoon.

There was one new death of an elderly person, bringing the Horry County total to 17.

Georgetown County rose to 45 cases while remaining at three overall deaths as of Sunday.

In South Carolina, there were 137 new COVID-19 cases Sunday with eight more deaths, bringing the totals to 6,626 cases and 275 deaths.

S.C. Gov. Henry McMaster on Friday made the “work or home” order voluntary while paving the way for restaurants to participate in outdoor dining beginning Monday.

Health officials also continue to stress the importance of social distancing and handwashing to help slow the spread of the disease.
