DHEC: New coronavirus cases confirmed in Horry County, Myrtle Beach area April 30

State health officials confirmed four new coronavirus cases in Horry County Thursday as hotels and other short-term rental properties in the area prepare to reopen Friday.

The total confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Myrtle Beach area now stands at 215, along with 15 deaths.

Statewide, Horry County remains one of the least impacted areas based on confirmed populations compared to population size, though local officials have expressed concerns about a lack of available testing.

DHEC has estimated that about 76 percent of those diagnosed with the virus that haven’t died in South Carolina have recovered, and the number of new cases confirmed weekly in Horry County has dropped from a high of 70 in early April to 20 last week.

A total of 6,095 COVID-19 cases and 244 deaths have been reported in South Carolina, according to DHEC.

Numerous local governments across the Grand Strand, including Myrtle Beach, have stated or created orders that will allow hotels and other accommodations to begin reopening Friday. All public beach accesses have reopened recently.
