South Carolina DHEC releases latest coronavirus cases data for Horry County, Myrtle Beach

Horry County’s coronavirus cases have reached 223 as of Friday afternoon, the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control reports.

The number of deaths has increased by eight in the Myrtle Beach area, according to DHEC. Since mid-March, the county has seen 16 deaths due to the virus.

The 16th death was announced by the state on Friday. The victim was elderly.

The move comes as Gov. Henry McMaster announced plans to end the state’s “work or home” order.

Doctors on the Grand Strand say cases in the area have plateaued in the last week. The number of COVID-19 cases announced last week by the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control decreased compared to weeks prior in Horry County. About 20 new cases in the county were confirmed last week, compared to just over 50 between April 13-19 and about 70 April 6-12.

Cases across South Carolina have reached 6,258, with 256 deaths, DHEC reports.
