Coronavirus count: The latest COVID-19 case numbers for Myrtle Beach, Horry County
The number of coronavirus cases in Horry County and the Myrtle Beach area continued to rise Sunday, with two additional cases.
The county’s total rose to 203 cases, up from 201 on Saturday. The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control released the latest data on Sunday afternoon.
There were no new deaths in Horry County as the total remained at 12.
Georgetown County remained at 39 cases and two overall deaths as of Sunday.
In South Carolina, there were 237 new COVID-19 cases Sunday with eight more deaths, bringing the totals to 5,490 cases and 174 deaths.
This week, South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster lifted ordered that had temporarily closed public beach accesses and certain retailers. Municipalities are now allowed to reopen beach accesses, though some on the Grand Strand have decided to keep the accesses closed. Retailers like furniture, clothing and floral stores are allowed to reopen, with restrictions of how many people should be inside at one time.
Health officials also continue to stress the importance of social distancing and handwashing to help slow the spread of the disease.
