Here are the latest updates on the coronavirus in the Myrtle Beach area April 24.

Public beach accesses in the City of Myrtle Beach, the Town of Pawleys Island and in Georgetown County remain temporarily closed. Other municipalities have reopened beach accesses this week following South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster lifting the order that temporarily closed the accesses to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

Today’s takeaways:

  • Retailers like furniture and retail stores are allowed to reopen. Here are Myrtle Beach area stores that are now open.
  • With some retail stores now allowed to operate in South Carolina, a few Horry County business owners are looking to regain some type of normalcy while aware business won’t be the same as the coronavirus continues to spread.

  • Florists are also allowed to reopen this week, and some are facing challenges as Mother’s Day is right around the corner. ”It’s just not normal and I don’t know when it will be normal. It has changed our lives,” one florist said.
  • Horry County Schools is now considering all potential options for holding in-person graduation ceremonies after receiving overwhelming pushback from the announcement that they would be conducted virtually. Here’s the latest.

  • Feel good Friday: Tidelands Health has donated more than 1,500 hand-sewn masks to area nursing homes and assisted living centers to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus. “Our efforts to fight COVID-19 aren’t just happening in the walls of our hospitals,” said Monica Grey, associate vice president of transitional care at Tidelands Health. “We are reaching out to support our community and provide any resources we have to limit the spread of this highly contagious virus and keep our community members healthy.”

Wash your hands & happy Friday

Here’s your daily reminder to wash your hands. Health officials recommend washing your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Washing hands often and practicing social distancing can help prevent the spread of the virus, health officials say.

Congrats, you have made it to Friday. Forecasters say it should be mostly sunny in the Myrtle Beach area Saturday, with a high around 75 degrees - perfect walking, jogging and picnic weather. It’s possible showers could roll into the area Saturday night and Sunday, so get your outside time in Saturday!
