Coronavirus cases continue climbing in Horry County, Myrtle Beach area on April 23

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Horry County increased by six Thursday, according to the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control data.

The county’s total COVID-19 cases now stands at 196, though state health officials have estimated that a majority of people statewide have recovered.

A total of 12 who tested positive in Horry County have died, DHEC data shows.

Statewide, the total number of coronavirus cases rose to 4,917, while the total deaths are 150.

The worldwide pandemic has led to closures throughout South Carolina for more than a month. Gov. Henry McMaster eased some restrictions earlier this week, allowing certain businesses and beach accesses to reopen, but he also announced public K-12 schools would remain closed for the rest of the school year.
