Another coronavirus death while cases rise in Horry County, Myrtle Beach area

Horry County reached double digit deaths due to coronavirus after health officials reported an additional death Friday.

The S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control confirmed 11 additional cases Friday for a total of 167.

Horry County has had 10 deaths due to the coronavirus as of Friday, DHEC reports, with latest reportedly being an elderly person with no underlying health conditions. The health department has defined elderly as anyone above the age of 60.

Last week, there were 70 new coronavirus cases announced in Horry County. That number has decreased so far this week.

Cases across South Carolina have reached 4,086 with 116 deaths. DHEC has estimated that about 67 percent of those patients, excluding those that died, have recovered.

S.C. Governor Henry McMaster said in a Thursday news conference that he expects the economy to be “humming” by the end of June. In the conference, he also relaxed public boat landing closures for fishing season.
