New numbers: Horry County, Myrtle Beach see more COVID-19 cases in DHEC’s latest update

The number of coronavirus cases in Horry County and the Myrtle Beach area continued to rise Sunday, April 12, with two additional cases reported.

The county’s total rose to 134 cases, up from 132 on Saturday. The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control released the latest data on Sunday afternoon.

There were no new deaths in Horry County as the total remained at seven.

Georgetown County had 31 total cases and one death as of Sunday, down a case from Saturday because DHEC determined one of the people was actually from another state.

In South Carolina, there were 112 new COVID-19 cases Sunday with two deaths, bringing the totals to 3,319 cases and 82 deaths.

The state remains under a “work or home” order that Gov. Henry McMaster issued earlier this week. Health officials also continue to stress the importance of social distancing and handwashing to help slow the spread of the disease.
