Coronavirus live updates for April 9: Myrtle Beach area adjusts to ‘work or home’ life

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases is inching near triple-digits in Horry County, according to the latest data, as residents adjust to a “work or home” order.

Wednesday was the first full day under Gov. Henry McMaster stay at home order for South Carolina as officials try to slow the outbreak. Projections are that the state will hit its peak number of COVID-19 cases in late April or early May.

Here are the latest updates on the coronavirus in the Myrtle Beach area.

Horry County has a total of 91 confirmed cases of COVID-19, state health officials say. There have also been seven deaths in the Myrtle Beach area.

Health officials estimate there are another 557 cases in the county that have not been confirmed.

There are more than 2,500 confirmed cases of coronavirus across South Carolina and 63 deaths.

Today’s takeaways:

Wash your hands & a smile

Last, but not least, here is your daily reminder to wash your hands. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends washing your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Health officials also urge people to practice social distancing, stay home if you feel unwell unless you are going to seek medical attention, and avoid those who are sick.

Got an April birthday? Be creative in the way you celebrate.
