Conway Medical Center furloughs some employees due to coronavirus economic downturn

Conway Medical Center is furloughing 100 of its 1,500 employees who are not directly related to the coronavirus fight.

Due to the governor’s orders to forgo any elected surgeries, there has been a significant drop in patients and revenue, the hospital announced in a news release.

“Some shifts in our workforce are necessary to help us meet the challenges of this pandemic, which has included a significant financial impact,” the release said.

The furloughed employees can apply for unemployment benefits and will retain their insurance.

CMC’s executive team also took a 10 percent pay cut until the furloughed employees are allowed back into work.
