Myrtle Beach manufacturing site confirms employees contracted coronavirus

Employees at the AVX Corporation’s Myrtle Beach location contracted coronavirus, according to a statement from the company.

AVX’s CFO Mike Hufnagle confirmed to The Sun News that employees had the virus, but he would not share how many.

“These employees have not returned to the facility since their confirmed diagnosis and are currently in quarantine,” Hufnagle said while reading a statement. “We’ve contacted impacted individuals who may be at risk from immediate contact, and they are self-quarantined.”

AVX is an electronics manufacturing company headquartered in Greenville but has a location on Harrelson Boulevard in Myrtle Beach near the airport. The company’s ties to the Grand Strand go back to 1940s. It produces antennas, circuits and fuses.

The factory remains open, and Hufnagle said CDC regulations for sanitation and social distancing are being followed.

“AVX is committed to providing a safe environment for our employees,” Hufnagle said.
