Conway Medical Center confirms coronavirus death, says it’s waiting on 85 test results

A patient at Conway Medical Center has died as a result of the coronavirus, according to a release from the hospital.

It is the first death at CMC. Four Horry County patients have died as a result of the coronavirus across area hospitals.

“On behalf of the CMC staff, I would like to extend our deepest sympathies to the family and loved ones of this patient,” said CMC CEO Bret Barr in the release. “This virus is leading to heartbreaking stories of loss around the world. Our hospital staff is committed to continuing to serve and care for our patients and community through this difficult and unprecedented time.”

CMC has tested 287 patients for coronavirus, combining inpatient and outpatient, and the hospital is awaiting the results of 85 of those tests. Fifteen tests have returned positive results, and seven of those patients are hospitalized in isolation.

Officials are urging the public to stay home, practice social distancing and wash hands with soap and sanitizer.
