We need your help covering coronavirus. Here’s how to send tips to The Sun News
Dear readers,
The Sun News and our regional partners at McClatchy are with you to weather the storm of the coronavirus. We need your help in knowing where problems are happening during this pandemic.
We believe in journalism that exposes problems facing the public — the waste of public resources, government and corporate fraud, abuse of power, corruption and injustice in all its forms.
During the public health crisis caused by the coronavirus outbreak, we want to hear from you, especially if you’re a health care worker, government employee, nursing home resident or hospital patient. Information surrounding this issue is critical for the public to understand the full extend of impact in our area, but it can be difficult to obtain because hospitals aren’t public agencies, and the public agencies overseeing these operations either aren’t tracking or aren’t releasing certain pieces of information.
You can reach us in a variety of ways, including anonymously.
Our reporters require hard evidence to tell stories. That means relying on documents and interviews with multiple sources. If you have evidence for a story that needs to be told, please let us know.
Submit a news tip with our online form, email us at sneditors@thesunnews.com or reach out to our Facebook page. We won’t quote you or use your name without your explicit permission.
We’ve also created a form for healthcare workers to provide us information about what you’re seeing, including whether you have needed personal protective equipment and are getting proper guidance on testing procedures.
If you want to share a document or story idea with a specific reporter, send an email by clicking on his or her name on top of a story they wrote.
Reporters’ office phone numbers are also listed next to their names at the bottom of each story. While our newsroom is working remotely, reporters have 24/7 access to their office voicemail boxes.
We recommend never using work equipment — computers, WiFi networks, email addresses or phones owned by your employer — to communicate sensitive information with our reporters and editors.
