Joe Diffie, scheduled to perform at Carolina Country Music Fest, dies of coronavirus

Joe Diffie, a Grammy Award-winning country music artist, died Sunday due to complications from the coronavirus, according to a post on his Facebook page.

Diffie, who was scheduled to perform in June at Carolina Country Music Fest in Myrtle Beach, was 61 and a native of Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Diffie was known for hit songs including “John Deere Green,” “Pickup Man” and “Ships That Don’t Come In.” His family is requesting privacy at this time.

Myrtle Beach and other local governments have enacted restrictions including preventing hotels from accepting new visitors through April to slow the spread of COVID-19, but Carolina Country Music Fest, set for June 4-7, hasn’t announced any postponements or cancellations.
