Horry County police issue social distancing citations amid coronavirus spread

The Horry County Police Department is closely monitoring public interactions amid the coronavirus pandemic and issued several citations this weekend due to a lack of social distancing.

The department’s beach and river patrols issued 10 citations Saturday monitoring the waterways and shores, while other parties dispersed when approached, according to the HCPD Facebook page.

South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster issued an emergency declaration order that enabled law enforcement to separate groups of more than three in an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19. HCPD noted it is enforcing this directive, particularly if a large group isn’t part of the same family unit.

The department advises that members of the public can report social distancing violations by calling its non-emergency line at 843-248-1520.
